I am very excited that a classic kick-ass action hero is back on the screen. Though he is 60 years old and looks pretty bloated I am still excited to see Rambo. We have seen resurgences of the tough guy character (i.e., Die Hard 4), but gone is the day where they ruled the screen. I miss the days of the tough guys who couldn't die and always crushed the enemy/terrorists. Today the screen is usually filled with charming suave heroes. I read an interesting article once on how the Alpha male is fading into the past and that the Beta male is taking over. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the character of beta male such betas are: Jim from The Office, the guys from Knocked up and so on. However, as much as I enjoy the beta the Alpha male character will always have a place in my heart. Action movies are great they always complete what you can't in real life. Rambo can take down Russia in Afghanistan (Rambo III) by himself while the Cold war lasted for over forty years. You want to see the "bad guys" destroyed and the world happy, that's what most action movies give you.
As a side note whatever happened to European terrorists, I would much rather have them back for their logical political or monetary motives. Arab/Muslim terrorists on the other hand are fighting or purportedly fighting in the name of religion which is very illogical and deep rooted. It is part of the culture...check that..it IS the culture. The European terrorists would always either give up or die with minimal civilian casualties meanwhile civilian casualties are the medium for religious terrorists to get their "point" across. Their point being that we are Godless because we don't live in tents and squalor. All I see them doing is throwing rocks at tanks how about getting a job, that couldn't possibly be why we are more successful than them. I do understand how other countries including ours and the region's resource has added to the problems, but still. I feel like they are Wile E. Coyote and the Sheepdog. They punch in their time card and do nothing productive. Who knew a post about Rambo would have lead to this, but oh well this is why I have a blog.
Well, now back to my main point which is I am excited about Rambo coming out this Friday. I have to come to the realization that it will most likely be a terrible movie, but I will still enjoy it. I will post what I thought of the movie when I see it.
Isn't this blog amazing?
